Ed and Winry have a dynamic that's a lot of fun to write. She's just as strong as he is, in a lot of ways, and it always makes me sad when I read fics that shortchange her in that regard.
And honestly, if it hadn't been for the challenge-haiku I had to work with, I doubt I would have thought of the addition of the family. But I like to think that Ed has such good remembrances of growing up. There's so much tragedy otherwise in his life; if he doesn't have something nice to look back on, then it's all just too sad.
