And Miles To Go
Sep. 14th, 2008 04:03 pmHere's one from Whimsey's Haiku Challenge. This was a particularly fiendish- and brilliant- exercise in stretching your creativity. The way it worked, was that we each chose several haikus, and they were randomly combined with thematic prompts. The combined result was used to write the ficlet. We also did a few where we exchanged haiku pieces- somehow, I got stuck with several food-related haikus, which messed with my head something fierce. But... that's a good thing, I think. It forces you to work outside of your comfort zone, and even though I wracked my brain for weeks over a few of these, I ended up being pretty pleased with the results. Funny how that can work out.
So anyway. This was one of those exchanged haiku prompts, and it actually went quite awry. It was supposed to be limited to 350 words, but I had been experiencing quite a period of writer's block, and when the idea for this one finally came through, it went completely out of hand. And after suffering a drought of words, I wasn't about to trim it back, or do anything to curtail the flow. And so this 1242 word FMA piece landed in its stead.

And Miles To Go
Prompt: After the argument
Wrapping dumplings in
bamboo leaves, with one finger
she tidies her hair
( Three hundred feet to go... )
